Privacy Policy for Scrolln't

Scrolln't ("we", "our", or "the App") is developed to help users overcome digital distractions, manage screen time, and maintain focus through gamification and app-shielding tools. We take user privacy extremely seriously. This Privacy Policy outlines our transparent data practices.

1. Local-First Architecture

Scrolln't is engineered with a strict Local-First design. The vast majority of your data—including your focus logs, streaks, blocked app lists, aesthetic themes, sound choices, and level progression—is stored locally on your device in secure sandboxed storage.

2. Android Permissions and Sensitive APIs

To deliver core digital wellbeing and focus enforcement features, Scrolln't requests specific Android permissions:

A. Accessibility Service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)

• Core Purpose: Scrolln't uses the Android AccessibilityService API to detect shielded apps during an active focus session. If you enable optional Reels/Shorts blocking, it also checks accessibility-event text and content descriptions from Instagram or YouTube for labels such as “Reels” or “Shorts.”
• On-Device Processing: Event text is checked in memory on your device and is not logged, stored, or transmitted by Scrolln't. The service does not intentionally collect keystrokes, messages, passwords, banking data, or personal photos.
• Enforcement: When a shielded app window is detected during a running focus timer, the service redirects the user back to their active focus session to uphold their productivity commitment.

B. Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)

• Purpose: Used locally to calculate daily focus time vs. distraction app usage to provide accurate digital discipline metrics.
• Processing: All analytics and graphs are computed on-device.

C. Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)

• Purpose: Allows Scrolln't to display a focus reality check overlay when a shielded app is opened.

3. Cloud Synchronization & Multiplayer Squads

To enable optional multiplayer focus squads and leaderboard challenges, Scrolln't creates an anonymous randomized account ID when the app first connects to our backend. A random access token is stored in the operating system's secure storage on mobile devices; our backend stores only a hash of that token. No personal email address, phone number, or password is required. When participating in squads, your chosen username, XP, streak, and active focus status are synced with our backend.

4. Google Play Billing & Subscriptions

Any optional premium subscriptions (Scrolln't Pro) are processed entirely and securely via the Google Play Billing library. We never receive or store your financial credentials or credit card numbers.

5. Data Control & Deletion

Users have complete control over their data at all times. You can permanently wipe all local history, metrics, and configurations via Settings → Reset All Data within the application.
